"I try to glorify the mundane and raise it to a surprising intensity for
the viewer to recognize the often overlooked beauty surrounding us. I
am more a draughtsman than a colorist although I am mostly known for my
bold use of color in the manner of the French Fauves. I enjoy the
challenge and fun of trying different mediums and techniques. More than
anything I love working onsite where I am most capable of shaping
reality to create something beautiful. Great art is truer than real
life." |

| | Biography: | Ken
Christensen is a plein air painter known for bold and colorful
landscapes. He is a native of Michigan (born 1951) and graduate of
Michigan State University. He began his career exclusively as a
watercolor painter in Traverse City, Michigan but after five years he
moved to Europe where he remained for ten years. He lived in London for a
year, France for eight years, and one year in San Sebastian, Spain.
While in Europe he gradually shifted to oil painting by studying with
Parisian artists and working in the Louvre Museum as an official
copyist. He had three one man shows in Paris, one in St Tropez, and two
in Italy. He met his wife in Spain and they returned to the U.S. in
1989. He then alternated his time between Santa Fe, New Mexico in the
winter and Northern Michigan in the summer where he ran his own gallery
and used book store. In 1999 he moved to California, first to Salinas
and then to San Luis Obispo. He currently resides in Los Osos, CA. He is
the founder of The New Fauves, an international group of painters who
work in the Fauvist style. Ken is a noted painter, award winner, and
teacher. He exhibits widely in the U.S and France.
