| | Statement: |
I am a plein air representational artist, best known for my vibrant oil paintings and strong expressive style. I have lived on the California Central Coast most of my life, but grew up in Northern California where I learned to love nature and the outdoors. By far my favorite subject is the landscape around me, often including architecture for added interest.I enjoy painting the beauty of my surroundings, especially portraying the seasons and capturing the color, the light, and the mood of the scene. I paint on location as well as in my studio. I have a loose expressive style that is somewhat impressionistic. I love being able to not just paint what I see, but to paint it the way I would like it to be, moving things around or combining several scenes into one to make the best composition possible. Though I strive for excellence in all my work, I think I enjoy the process as much as the finished product. I love to experiment and try new ways of conveying what I see. I am constantly working to improve my art. My goal is to be able to say exactly what I want on the first attempt, keeping the painting fresh, and to make it sparkle with light and life, capturing the beauty of creation and the world around me.For my audience, my goal is to get their attention and to hold it for as long as possible. I want them to like what they see and be drawn into the painting. I would hope they find themselves transported to another place where they can get excited about what they see like I was when I painted it! Loving what you do and being able to use the gift you've been given to enrich people's lives is exciting.I have won awards for my paintings at juried shows, recently had a painting juried into the 2011 National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society show (where I won the best landscape award) , and had two paintings juried into the Paint the National Parks Best 2011 show. I am also in the process of being published in the Best of America Oil Painters, Volume III. My paintings are in many private collections both locally, across the country, and overseas. I am currently represented by Gallery Los Olivos in Los Olivos, CA, Bronze, Silver and Gold Gallery in Cambria, CA, and Art Central Gallery in San Luis Obispo, CA. |
