"So much is considered Art these days...I try to sometimes express an
idea or sentiment through visual imagery, and sometimes it is the beauty
of a landscape or destination that becomes a mere background or
landscape for beauty's' sake. I would like to think my art and skills
are unlimited, beauty is everywhere." -Todd Taylor

Brad's conceptual paintings enter his conscious thought as completed
pieces. The unique vision of his paintings create a subtle conflict of
ideas, serving both humorous whimsy and serious thought. rad first
paints his background using acrylic paint on canvas. Then using models,
props, and photos for reference, he paints the conceptual aspects of the
art piece in oils. |

"How color affects me is an important issue in my paintings. Certain
color combinations can cause an immediate emotional response. This
might happen while looking at flowers, photographs in a magazine, or
simply selecting colors of paint that capture my attention at that
moment. I create my paintings outdoors, under the California sun, where
I have the freedom to work physically, without restraint. There is an
organic quality to the process, utilizing fluid color to create
movement. I never use brushes. Paint is applied to the canvas by
dripping, pouring and splashing, with water sprayed onto the surface.
Painting for me is about capturing the physical and emotional energy
that I experience while being completely lost in the process. My
paintings are open to interpretation. Each person will find their own
meaning in the work."Lana Sokoloff

"Painting is a comfortable medium to me. It comes naturally and I paint
what I feel. I like to get something onto the canvas quickly so as not
to lose the feeling I have at that particular moment. I either do quick
sketches and then move right to the painting. As an artist I feel
symbolism is my favorite element in my own art. To be able to sign a
meaning and draw there own relation to that piece. In creating my
paintings, I try to create images that tell a story, or invoke a feeling
for the subject matter. My aim is to portray this story in beautiful
colors and tones that match the subject matter's mood. Painting is such a
pleasure for me that I can only hope that when I have signed my name to
a finished work, that it will bring pleasure for viewers somewhere,
sometime, someplace." -Hugo Sandoval

"When I work with paint, I am stirred
deeply to express life's experiences through color. My intention as an
abstract vibrational artist is to express emotion as well as story
completely through color. When I'm inspired to begin a piece I start by
visualizing a color palette. Then I allow my mind to relax and allow the
colors to appear one at a time. Once I have a clear mental picture of
the colors that are forming I begin to feel into my body and get a sense
of the story these colors would like to tell. I love what I do because
each piece carries it's own vibrational message. The most rewarding
experience as a vibrational artist is when a piece is complete, shared
in a public, and the viewer feels the vibration while connecting to the
story. I know a piece is complete and the story has been told when my
hand will not allow me to put another stroke onto the canvas! When people
see my work I hope they are able to see the colors of their own life in
a tangible way.I feel my art is a success when someone views one of my
pieces and goes from feeling disconnected from self to feeling inspired
and rejuvenated. I believe color is a universal language that everyone
can understand regardless of their educational background, social
status, gender, religion, or race. My goal as an artist is to unite

fluidity of expression just merging in that one moment, the unusual, the

seen, then develop a voice in all languages; a unique song that sings to

"If I could choose a term to describe my art, it would have to be
"Brightly Inspired." Whether the idea for a piece comes to me in a dream
or something I see in my day to day life, my goal is always to develop
a piece that is stimulating, head-turning and truly unique. I want the
viewers to be energized by what they see.I've always been captivated by
color and so my artwork is usually very bold, with multiple layers,
textures and shapes. This is the reason for my use of many different
materials. Often the media needed to create the look I'm seeking doesn't
exist at the art store, so I find myself re-purposing materials
discovered at craft fairs, hardware and specialty stores. You'll find
many of my newer pieces consist of a combination of new, recycled, and
re-purposed materials. When all is said and done, my motivation is very
simple: I want a show-stopping piece of art, capable of bringing both a

| "A
semblance of landscape is persistent in my work. Focusing on memories of
familiar places, I work within a stream of consciousness to create
spaces that are fractured yet loaded with imagery. Although some images
may be more recognizable than others, it is the expanse not the specific
that is significant. I work with imagined, often exaggerated color.
When painting, I may close my eyes and ask "what would come next?" Using
a variety of media: ink, charcoal, graphite, acrylic and oil, I Work
simultaneously on large drawings and paintings; the distinction is not
always clear. Color and line vibrate and blur coming into focus now and
then to suggest imagery. Objects become stacked and compressed in
shallow space. Much like the reconstruction of memory, spatial
understanding and intuition intersect on the painted surface to create
an emotional response.I try to act with an expressionist sensibility,
combining physical experience and a wandering eye with a reckless hand.
When exploring the emotional connection I have to my personal landscape,
I find that architecture and natural forms maintain a lasting
impression on my psyche. Much like Van Gogh's cypress trees, aspects of
the landscape supplant living figures taking on a liveliness that rivals
our own." |

"In my work, I attempt to express
something more than the physical aspects of the subject. It is not my
intent to portray accurately what I see, but rather to allow what I see
to show itself to me. My part is to freely and joyously paint and let
the result take care of themselves. I feel that successful painting just
happens and the end result cannot be anticipated and should be very
surprising to the painter. The more the painter can 'not paint' so to
speak. the more space becomes available for this communication to take
place. It is a kind of effortless accomplishment whose success is not
measured by the work itself, but rather in what is stirred or evoked in
the viewer. Possibly, the real fruit of painting or art, is that it has
the power to awaken the sleeping artist within each of us. Thus creating
new possibilities for seeing and appreciating the beauty which
surrounds us."-Brian Simons

Another Victim of the Laguna Art Bandit!

From www.lagunaartnews.com. Posted on 1/16/2012
Laguna Beach police are asking art galleries to keep a closer watch in light of a wave of recent art thefts.
Kush Gallery was the latest victim. A $7,500 Vladimir Kush painting was stolen Jan. 5, right before Art Walk started.
In the fall, the Townley Gallery and Village Gallery reported thefts of a $2,000 glass sculpture and a $3,295 sculpture, respectively.
Gallery cameras caught the suspects on tape, and the owners thought
the two thefts may be connected, but police said they have no reason to
believe it was the same person.
484 North Gallery also reported the theft of a $1,950 copper sculpture in April.
Police have no suspects in custody, Laguna Beach Sgt. Louise Callus said.
Townley Gallery owner Shane Townley told the Coastline Pilot in the fall that he believes the suspect mistook the glass sculpture for bronze.

"Beauty
is all around if you just look for it. I see beauty everywhere. My
work is my expression of that. When someone appreciates my work, it
makes me feel as if we share a secret; that it speaks to them validates
my decision to become an artist at this late time in my life. The
thought that my work will be hung on someone's wall, to be looked at
every day, makes the time spent in my studio trying to interpret the
beauty I see well worth the frustration and angst of trying to "get it
right." My work is about colors that make me feel good and images that
make me smile.I am intrigued with the interplay between wax and dye on
fabric. The nature of batik is so fluid and organic; it directs the
design. The fact that it is an ancient art form and that the tools I
use are virtually the same as those used a thousand years ago grounds
me. Each day I can't wait to melt wax and get my hands covered in dye
again. !t has become my passion. Sometimes it feels like I have wax

"By working to make color and light
dance,I choose to focus on that part of humanity which offers hope,
light, and promise. Gauguin once wrote about color as the language of
the listening eye, that which helps our imagination soar with inner
power and mystery. From the beginning of my explorations, color has
always been my driving interest, and the primary power in my work.By
using oil and acrylic paints as my surface, I create paintings
emphasizing color juxtapositions and interactions. The flow of color and
line, shape and form
become intricately interwoven as translucent and opaque layers of glaze
are laid down. Each layer creates new forms that I respond to in making
the painting.I strive to combine expressionism with cubism and yet make
the paintings understandable to the art critic and casual viewer. My
work speaks to the universal human tendency to appreciate beauty and to
find meaning in abstraction. The appreciation of the beautiful is an
essential aspect of humanity, and there is a positive, almost spiritual
energy involved in the experience of the beautiful."-Teri Levine

"I call my paintings "silkweeds" where colors and lines are neither inside nor out. They simply encounter one another. Most of the time I use Jacquard silk, which has a pattern or texture woven into the fabric. The dyes adhere differently to the raised pattern detail creating an added dimension. Since I'm painting "wet-on-wet, the colors merge or encounter one another thus creating even more colors as well as layered combinations. I have also incorporated the ancient Japanese technique of Shibori to achieve additional layers. After steaming the piece I create a scarf, a stretched canvas, a hanging or a set of note cards. Scraps have been known to reappear in odd three-dimensional pieces."-Kaki Steward

bring forth the truly unique. I want to show the world something they

"I
got into arts as a Collector and an Art Promoter. I would spend most of
my leisure time with my family kids and Artist friends. Love of
Creation made me a Lifetime student..Holding jobs and going to school at
the same time became my task of Life. Meanwhile I would teach myself
how to play guitar and paint. Seeing that self teaching didn't take me
too far I took private guitar lessons and got admitted to Glendale
College where I mastered my knowledge in design, drawing and painting.
Painting and composing music have definitely brought me back to my pure
innocent feelings of Love. Art has become the pure answer of my life.

"Every canvas I paint creates a window
for self-discovery. Working abstractly allows the power of the
unconscious to emerge and I rely on my intuition, instincts and body to
guide me. In this soul/process of discovery cellular memories, natural
landscapes and archetypal images emerge. I experience myself as if I was
on an archeological dig where symbols and colors can flow and tap into
the stories and myths we live out. Working in layers adds history and
depth to each piece. I paint predominately in oils and also enjoy a
mixed media technique of layering paper onto the canvas. In addition to
various brush techniques, I use the palette knife and mediums to sculpt
the paint."-Lynn LeTourneau

"My passion for photography began at a
young age when my father introduced me to it. The natural ability to see
the world through the camera soon expressed my creativity in some of
the most amazing photographs ever taken. By traveling and exploring
undiscovered places, I have captured some of the most beautiful
landscape scenery that our planet has to offer. I can feel it when I see
the perfect shot. A good photographer is entranced by the moment, the
exact moment when an amazing photograph can be captured. My photographs
are the result of majestic landscape scenery, the perfect lighting, and
the coalition of colors that surround our world. A sense of excitement
overcomes me when I discover that special instant that I know will take
people to another place. My photographs are a medium by which your
imagination takes you to that ultimate escape. An escape from the
ordinary life of the modern world into the remote natural world that has
been created over millions of years. My photographs are the means by
which to pull out something beautiful from inside you. I believe that we
all have that special drive within us." -Amy Martinson

"I grew up with a tremendously artistic family. Surrounded by creative
people all my life, I have learned that art is a form of self
expression. When I create a mosaic I concentrate on texture, scale and
color. I truly enjoy using different elements outside of the box. I add
elements such as metal, wood, stone, reverse painted glass and jewelry.
On commission pieces I sometimes add personal items from the client
which creates an emotional attachment. After years of working in the
interior design industry I realized that my mosaics work well as an
architectural and design element to any project." | -Laurie Brinkmann

"I began at a very young age to express
myself creatively through movement. For many years I studied dance being
drawn to forms that allowed creative self expression. All the while
feeling this constant urge to create with my hands. The canvas is now my
dance floor where color, beauty and drama are expressed through my
every brush stroke. My subjects vary from fairies, fantasy, mermaids,
vampires, dragons, wildlife, abstract and more. I am one who is inspired
in a single moment. My dreams, my moods and the beauty of the world
unfolding around me is what charts my dance for the day. I am so alive
when I paint, creating timeless pieces that reflect my heart and soul.

knife paintings in an impasto style which allows for the creation of
texture and depth in my paintings. The majority of my work is abstract
florals, blossoming trees, and landscapes all full of texture and
movement. I am inspired by nature and the textures, light, shapes, and
beauty found within it. I have always been mesmerized by the colors,
light, shadows and the organic textures found outdoors....I pride myself on painting unique pieces

"I have two great loves, painting and
photography, both which I started more than 15 years ago. I worked full
time with acrylics and oils for many years but our world is changing so
quickly that in order to preserve it in my own way I had to put down the
brush and taken up the lens as my full time passion, conservation
photography. I wish to pass down to future generations what is rapidly
disappearing before our very eyes. I was born in Budapest Hungary and
have now lived in the USA for the past 10 years. I travel often between
Budapest and the USA for my family and for my passion, which is
photography. Some of my favorite spots to shoot are Venice, The Blue

"I am painting the Invisible - the
Energy of Life. The human form is recessed into black and white, and the
Unseen Energy of that moment is materialized in full color. My hope as
an artist is to remind people of the reality of the aura of energy that
surrounds all of us on a continual basis. Moments in time determine the
colors, shades, moods, and form of that energy. Albert Einstein proved
that an average-sized adult contains 7 x 1018 joules of potential energy
within them -the force of thirty very large hydrogen bombs. He proved
that everything has this kind of energy within it. I am painting this
energy." -Kristen Romney Hubbs

"It is minimal yet very involved" I want to create art that is
un-reproducible, by man or machine in present time or in the future. The
intention is the further into the future the harder to duplicate. Not

that makes it even more impossible to copy. | -Chien Ngo

While in architecture school, I
particularly enjoyed explaining my designs through colorful renderings
and presentations.
Now, years later, I still find color to be my best tool of
communication. Although what I am trying to communicate has changed
immensely. I went through years of no expression after I left
architecture. I used to do very small colorful paintings in pastel after
seeing a great modern dance performance when I was so inspired that I
could not contain it. Containment is what I did with all my creative
expressions for years..........It wasn't until memorial day few years
ago that I decided to do a painting as an homage to the two mentors I
had lost that year. These two men were: Ingmar Bergman whose writings
and movies had been contributing to my intellectual growth since I was
19, and Robert Rauschenberg whose paintings had been stimulating my
creative mind for years........" -Fariba Ghaffari

"The mystery and wildness of animals is
the inspiration for my work. Plant, animal forms and background shapes
interlock creating compositional as well as emotional tension. Often
arrangements of repeating shapes can be found in both the positive and
negative spaces. Through content and these formal elements I hope to
represent the interrelatedness of nature and life. I identify with the
survival instincts of my subjects, and with their vulnerability. In my
need for serenity I create a safe place for them. While maintaining
respect for the cycles of the natural world, the instinct to keep the

"I use
the painting process as a visually dialectic tool. The process itself
can be abstract as juxtaposed images and text can assume a variety of
implied meanings and relationships. I use juxtapositions of eclectic
images and ideas in which could be described as classically post-modern.
A dichotomy of techniques, both classical and modern mirror the
philosophical subtext, i.e. language problems, identity issues, etc.
Aesthetically I am interested in an interplay between figurative
representation and abstract concepts, such as text, algorithms,
equations etc.." -Roger Manley

developed a style that coalesces my experiences as one familiar with
the technicalities of music, and as one who earns his bread as a

"In our lives, we ebb and flow constantly between perceived opposites.
We reside in shades of gray - things are never purely black or white,
good or bad, easy or difficult. Without night, we could not comprehend
day; without black, we would not recognize white. And although we
instinctively recoil, it is also true that without pain, we would not
know joy; without death, we would not live life. Opposites are not
adversaries but allies, defining and giving meaning to one another. The
orbs in my work are symbolic of the whole of things. With no beginning
or end, each orb represents two poles, and every point that lies in
between, as one mysterious whole. We are always at some point along the
continuum, within the orb - constantly assessing and weighing where we
are, where we want to be, and where we think we ought to be. Whether
falling in love or grieving a death, by leaning deeper into each
sensation or experience, we lean into its opposite as well. And by doing
so, we expand to a place of greater balance, and sometimes a place of
repose. This is the eloquence of life - this is the perspective I strive
to portray in my work." -Kristin Fritz

"My sculptures and paintings use organic forms and surfaces as a
counterpoint to more precise processes and components. In my paintings,
colors and exacting compositions structure an organic subsurface. The
"collage canvases" are free form in spirit and use random mixes of
materials to create a colorful and textural sketch for the paintings.
The textures and materials of the canvas are an integral part of the
process and of the final painted surface and subject. In my sculptures,
tooled elements define and present an organic core. The natural core
form is refined as needed and the supporting elements are shaped using a
variety of tools. Natural elements and characteristics within are
preserved to help sketch its form and preserve its character. Different
types of wood and other elements are mixed within each sculpture in the
spirit of the randomness of the creative process and of life." -Eric Akcevak

"For me, creating art has been an
evolutionary process spanning decades of work in metal, paint, and
glass. My glass work applies the skills developed working in paint and
metal with the time-honored traditions of great glass makers. Light is
an essential element of my art, from conception to completion. My kilns,
welders, saws, grinders, and polishers are all solar powered, thus
natural light plays an integral role in both the production process and
as the raw material in my finished works of art. I view light as a
sculptural medium, and glass as an instrument to manipulate and
translate light. I use properties of refraction and reflection to create
visions that attract the eye and stimulate the senses. My knowledge of
the beautiful natural environment of Southern California informs my
artistic vision. Influenced by the simplicity of minimalist aesthetics
and the geometric forms of early modernism my work conveys the sensual
properties of glass and bronze." -Patrick Blythe |

does not easily reveal itself to the hurried viewer. These paintings
have hidden connotations, although always a message based on general
human values, which could not be freely expressed in a totalitarian

seldom touched by light tones, used not to solve the mystery but to

between myself and the world around me. I have spent my life dealing
with images; at times shaping them, at times accepting them as they are.
When I take a picture, it is an acknowledgment of the world around me.
When I (now) view it on the computer screen, it is the world's reply,
through the technology of photography, to my acknowledgment. If I choose

"The creative process of painting has become a part of my daily life and
I am so blessed to be able to work creating my souls' joy. Approaching a
fresh canvas is both exciting and intimating as I do not always have a
clear-cut execution in mind but perhaps a vague tugging. Once that first
brush stroke happens, my creative process takes over as I instinctively
reach for colors, placement and become what I am creating." -Amy Tuso

work with vibrant colors in oils and acrylics using brushes and palette
knifes. The interpretive work of my abstracts is enhanced when
incorporated with texture and layers of paints and glazes. My figurative
pieces are conventional with a twist of soul, and the botanicals that
emerge are always multiple blends of bold and subtle colors. I believe
that artwork should be touched allowing the tactile senses to explore
deeper than the eyes can see. Studying at Scottsdale Artists' School,
with admired artists, and painting daily fine-tunes my gift from God.

"Pas.sion"; noun: Intense emotion, intense enthusiasm and outburst of
emotion; This is how the creative journey begins. with the passion to
create. "Still Life's"- capturing moments of life and transforming them
with my touch of digitally painted colors, as oils on canvas, but
printed on aluminum, capturing depth, evoking feeling and creating a
visual melding which the viewer sees as natural. Every piece is its own
inspiration, an infusion of the touched and the natural photograph,
light and dark shades with dynamic colors speaking to the viewer in

highlight the whole. or in close, with a matrix of dots and pixels that

"Look in a mirror and one thing is sure; what we see is not who we are.
What do you think about when you gaze into a mirror? I see a canvas, a
place for creation and an opportunity to have my expressed dreams
reflected upon anyone who looks. Not many artists' work stares back at
you and when I show, the muse get more than they bargained for when they
see not only an original creation but themselves.
I discovered this
weird talent in 2007 and have gotten such a positive reaction from
anyone who sees my work I was motivated to continue it as a profession,
which goes along smoothly with my childhood dream of being an artist.
Although having such a unique canvas has brought lots of attention, it
handicaps me when it comes to capturing a piece. As we all know, a
mirror captures everything it sees, it leaves the simple task of taking a
picture of a piece the most challenging part, so I encourage
appreciators to see my work in person.
When viewers look into my
mirrors, I'd like for them to feel the way Alice did looking down the
rabbit hole. Hope you find your way out..." -Nicky Alice

"I make things. objects. Mostly landscapes or things somehow related. I
spend much of my studio hours pursuing form and perspective, scale,
texture and all the other things that make objects, objects. You could
say that the landscape is the vehicle and "object-ness" is the
destination. I want the viewer to see this thing, this perspective. I
want it to be walked around, touched, experienced in a person's space.
The landscape makes it familiar; clay and wood make it approachable. At
times I'm just trying to point things out along the way. In the meantime
I want to challenge my own notions of space and form by applying old
materials and simple craft to make new experiences.-Tony Reynolds

| " I am interested in seeds, their
evolution, and their symbolic correlation to the phases of personal
development. Our personal progress, similar to that of a seed, once set
in motion begins quite small and matures. The growth of a seed is
analogous to growth of a person, in that, a seed's development is
determined not only according to size but also according to the change
that took place during the growth. My work explores the organic nature
of life.' This body of work can be read as abstracted landscapes that
generalize locations and show movement in a larger context. Carefully
considered color palettes and blind line drawings create organic
pod-like shapes in motion. The use of color, the employment of paint and
pencil and the ambiguity of organic forms allow meditation and
contemplation in each viewer. A viewer's experience with my work is an
exercise in introspection and exploration." -Aimee Bonham

Toni Waggoner paints with oils in a free, Impressionistic style. Toni studied at California Art Institute in Westlake, CA, with instructors Glen Orbik, Dottie Knight, David Jonas, Neil Boyle and others. She also studied at the Brentwood Art Center in Brentwood, CA. She has participated in workshops with many notable oil artists including Joyce Pike from the Art League, Joe Mendez, Corinne Hartley, watercolorist George Labordie, and the late Jake Lee. After years of studying many different techniques, Toni honed her style to express her own individuality. She sees art as an individual creation and understands that we all perceive the same subject differently. Toni thinks her paintings instill a feeling of actually having been there or they invoke a personal memory. She doesn't like to over-complicate all the theories of painting but rather just realize the basics.

| "I
surrender myself to my canvas and brush entering a world where I set
myself free and release my inner passion. When I am in the midst of
letting my inspiration flow, colors emerge as I begin. Each day, each
canvas perspective is a value of its present experience. I explore
painting as a history of art form, contained, and I release it as a
visual presence. From one experience to the next, that too, evokes an
emotional connection to the work, to the now. I love oils for their
versatility and flow. Oils flow in a direct proportion to center a
connection between intention and surrender. My last application of high
gloss contains freshness, the next-step toward completion. I want the
viewer to appreciate that we are visually gifted, see multiple
perspectives, and that we enter the scene that we are viewing. This is
how I set out to begin each art piece. Entering a world where I let go.
My current work involves the point of view of our inner strength of
wisdom and of nature's beauty through the eyes of our subconscious.
Nature and any surrounding environments are of a continuing exploration
as I commit myself further into my work. It's a gift ....it's part of me

element for life which is oxygen. He portrays the beauty of nature
through different mood that are caused by it, and he treats it as an
expressive subject matter in his art. He visits natural parks regularly

| "My work is profoundly influenced by Cubism as I do not merely paint the surface
of the objects, rather, search for the innerness and the essence of the matter.
Fragmentation of the objects into their essential volumes, planes and patterns creating
dynamism and rhythm in space is the ultimate challenge for me. I believe what
Mondrian said, “the surface of things gives enjoyment, the inferiority gives life”.
I am also drawn to paint in broad brush, intense color and lyric lines—a passionate
disciple of Abstract Expressionism- to invite the viewers into my own emotional
world.—passion vs. reasoning; possibility vs. limitation; optimism vs. despair
.
Growing up in the Chinese culture, my work is naturally influenced by the affinity I feel
for the Eastern spirituality—the Noguchi’s Zen-like quality --seeking order from chaos,
clarity from complexity ; depicting “chi” – the flow of life energy that articulates the
tension, balance and grace in nature. Let the spirit of forms flow, the “chi” will emerge
and be embodied in the work." -Frances Lai Wang

most expressive tools at my disposal. I often like to dance around the
line of what is realistic and what is slightly exaggerated in terms of
color. My work can tend to be on the eclectic side, as I am interested
in several different genres. Much of my work is inspired by the beauty
of the world around me. I have always had a deep love for the ocean and I
continually find myself wanting to paint it. I am very interested in
symbolism, therefore in most of my work each element has symbolic
significance. Some of the work can be experienced better with some
explanation, but I hesitate to explain too much in order to leave room

"The preparation of my art work is as
essential as the act of painting the piece. I construct shapes and
texture almost like a bas relief from ancient civilizations; fossilized
relics encased in boxes; collections; juxtaposing hard-edge geometric
structures against free-flowing organic forms. Sometimes my pieces are
like an etching plate that I can rub ink on and print from. I build up
and then sand off, build up again and sand off even more, eroding,
unearthing, discovering interesting surfaces. My work can be linear,
graphite detailing the piece, integrating layers, defining. Metallic
tone on tone and earth hues are prominent. Nature-inspired imagery is
consistent, using the tree as a symbol of the essence of Life. " -Joni Pakes |

want to let myself be tempted to seek only it, or to stop at it. With
each work in progress, I find myself in an internal debate about why I
shouldn’t leave it as it is after the first layer or two simply because
it is pretty or “looks good.” What I want is more than just “looks
good”; I want “looks good, is intriguing, unique, complex, confounding,
and ultimately beautiful.” I also want the painting to embody a certain
sense of movement that transcends the stasis of its materials. This is
why I layer the way I do. I am looking for a certain inner shimmer, a
hum, a subtle vibratory quality that comes from the right mixing of
similarity and opposition." - C. J. Sage

| "My paintings are best known for their
strong and unique use of color, the latter of which I have always had a
strong relationship with. Color has energized and intrigued me for as
long as I can remember. Twenty years of self-taught painting experience
has led me to a very saturated, bold, and recognizable watercolor style.
This style continues to deepen. Each painting keeps a little bit of me
and I have an emotional connection to each one I create. Along with the
many dogs and cats I paint, I am working on a wildlife series, a human
portrait series. Painting Animals is my Specialty. My first painting was
of my cat at the time, Sid. Although I worked on different subjects
over the years I developed as a painter, I always received the most
response from animal painitngs. This includes awards and a mention in
Forbes.com in 2002. Based on so much positive feedback, I made the
decision to pursue animal portraiture as a niche. I have found this to
be a very fulfilling endeavor, on many levels. My style of watercolor
style involves layering many coats of different colored paint and water
to get both the depth and level of saturation I want. I often feel the
animal chooses the colors thru me, and that I am merely describing them
energetically The fact that I am able to contribute to various animal
non-profit organizations that do such important work by doing the work I
love is incredible to me. I aspire to do it as long as I live.." -Sinclair Stratton |

Laguna ART Group Welcomes Sculptor Belle Tuckerman
The Laguna ART Group is very pleased to welcome sculptor Belle Tuckerman. "I grew up in a poor coal mining town in eastern Pennsylvania. Times were
tough for everyone in the post-Depression era. My siblings and I had
very few toys to play with, and even the four-room, eight-grade
schoolhouse I attended was devoid of any spark of design or art. So we
invented our own fantasy play world. Playhouses were made from
cardboard boxes and stocked with empty food containers. We created
fashion out of old clothing and made paper dolls. We learned to be
clever and find an imaginative use for everything. We invented, and
from those years of invention, creativity was naturally born in me. As I
think back to those years, I am amazed at what I learned about life
from the scarcity of my existence.
Later, as an adult, I took classes in oil painting and collage. I
learned to sew and made original and unique garments, costumes, dolls,
and decoration. After marriage and the birth of my two children, I
settled into a combined career of yoga teacher, massage therapist, and
esthetician. During those years I created a rejuvenating treatment for
the face that was nationally and internationally successful. I wrote a
book about it and developed it into a course that I taught to thousands
of professional massage therapists and estheticians. The years of
working on faces and bodies in a clinical setting contributed greatly to
my easy transition to sculpting the human body. My artistic intent is to express metamorphosis, a subject which
deeply provokes creation in me. I study faces intently and search for
the anima, the evolution, and the intrigue of life that has been
inscribed upon them. As an esthetician, I am fascinated by every face I
encounter. " -Belle TuckermanBelle's featured sculptures can be viewed and purchased online at LagunaART.com/Belle-Tuckerman
Laguna ART Group Welcomes Photographer Paul Marto
The Laguna ART Group proudly welcomes photographer Paul Marto. "Through my photography, I
am trying to bring awareness to the abundant collection of wildlife that
cohabit the Orange County area. The more we know about them and their
requirements, the better prepared we will be to live a peaceful
coexistence with them. After all, they were here first. Seems people
are so busy these days that we often never see the tremendous beauty and
grace that surrounds us. I strive to present brilliant photographs of
these amazing animals, large and small, in a way that will make people
say, "Wow, I have never seen this in Orange County? I had no idea." -Paul MartoPaul's featured photography on canvas can be viewed and purchased online at LagunaART.com/Paul-Marto
Welcoming Artist Jill Mollenhauer to the Laguna ART Group
We are very pleased to welcome artist Jill Mollenhauer to the Laguna ART Group. "As visionaries, artists
move us forward as a species into new realms of creation and expression,
further opening us to our true divine expressions. We look visually and
viscerally into the oneness of the universe - capturing for a moment
the truth of ourselves, as we are best able to perceive through our
perspectives. I have found dimensions of untold beauty and love,
vibrant, alive and open, not limited by the human condition, yet
celebrating it and beyond with color, line, form and clarity. Where the
inherent purity of ourselves is explored and exalted. It is my honor to
offer this invitation to you to join me in explorations of divinity, our
own selves." -Jill MollenhauerJill's featured works can be viewed and purchased online at LagunaART.com/Jill-Mollenhauer

work has an ever-increasing fascination with political and historical

The Laguna ART Group is pleased to welcome mixed media artist Barbara Van Rooyan. "Most of the art that I
create comes from a voice within me that I cannot describe with words. I
create art to give that voice a life. Before painting my work was with
textiles. I loved the textures and bright hues. The sometimes
sculptural effect of my paintings begs the viewer to touch as well as
see, therefore delighting more than one sense. How viewers see my art
opens new vistas for me and that is a feeling of freedom and

and draw is a line, both in form and as instance in time.
The line plays a significant and reoccurring role in my work. In each

my hands the talent, my mind the creator whether with paint, sculpting

surrealistic relief to my humor and juxtaposition in life as a unique
woman and artist. My technical career plays into the realistic style of
painting on canvas very perfectionistic and careless at the same time,
