Biography:
From London, England to Tehachapi, California -- via Los Angeles, his "adopted city" -- Leon Leigh is the quintessential artist. Being both mathematically and mechanically inclined, he started at a young age designing custom furniture for his family's business, and went on to become a stone mason and eventually a metal sculptor. Immigrating to America in 1986, Leigh opened a studio in Culver City and, thanks to his flair for design and spontaneity, quickly became a sought after artist by both commercial and private interests.
Artist Statement:
Leon Leigh creations originate from the fire of the imagination of both fantasy and fiction. By reducing the figure to the bare minimum, his sculptures expose the skeleton of a frail body and reveal the playfulness of a vigorous life. His work delivers a conquest of both ruin and charismatic energy. These creatures of whimsical dreamlike appearance personify the artists' existence in a world of the sublime and the surreal.
