Biography: I am a self taught artist born and raised on the "Westside" of Los Angeles. If you had told me 5 years ago that I would be an artist I would have said, "I have a job." In my 30s I studied interior design. One assignment involved selecting a way to apply dye to fabric. I researched and executed a batik which still hangs on her wall to this day. But a new career was an impractical dream with two kids to raise on my own. Years passed, kids grew up, jobs came and went. and then the recession hit... I figure it just means that I'm not meant to be a secretary; that I'm meant for more.

Statement:  "Beauty is all around if you just look for it. I see beauty everywhere. My work is my expression of that. When someone appreciates my work, it makes me feel as if we share a secret; that it speaks to them validates my decision to become an artist at this late time in my life. The thought that my work will be hung on someone's wall, to be looked at every day, makes the time spent in my studio trying to interpret the beauty I see well worth the frustration and angst of trying to "get it right." My work is about colors that make me feel good and images that make me smile.I am intrigued with the interplay between wax and dye on fabric. The nature of batik is so fluid and organic; it directs the design. The fact that it is an ancient art form and that the tools I use are virtually the same as those used a thousand years ago grounds me. Each day I can't wait to melt wax and get my hands covered in dye again. !t has become my passion. Sometimes it feels like I have wax running through my veins."

Exhibitions: Currently hanging art in Very Venice Art Gallery & Design Center; 2011 Canoga Park Artwalk; Artistic Uprising, Antioch University (11/2011); two solo shows scheduled for 2012
