Biography: Karen Hansen spent 22 years in the field of animation. The filmmaking took her to studios all over the world but painting full time was always her dream. She has done that since 2001. Hansen's award winning paintings have been exhibited and collected across the United States. Her awards include a brass manhole cover designed for a Minneapolis "Art for Architecture" competition. Her winning drawing reflecting life in the city is installed in the sidewalk outside the Minneapolis City Center. In 2006 she was selected for the book, Best of California Artists and Artisans. The American Art Awards 2011 International Competition awarded all four of her entries with first, second and fourth place for Minimalism, and second place for Abstracts.

Statement:  My paintings are atmospheric abstractions of meditation and memory. They are meant as resting places, transcendental escapes from our hectic, complex world. They speak to the rhythms and quiet mysteries of our lives and our search for deeper connection. These serene paintings, with their subtle complexity, are layered translucently in search of radiance, nuance and depth. They evolve through a process of improvisation, experimentation, revision and intuition.
