Description
Artist: Aron Ortega
Title: Wedding Bouquet
Size: (9) Panels (10" x 8" each), Total 30" x 24" Minimum
Medium: Acrylic on Canvas Panel
Presentation: Painted Edges, Varnished

I put together nine 8" x 10” canvases and painted them with acrylics from start to finish, in a very realistic manner. It is an interactive painting, each piece can be moved and rearranged for a wide array of variations!

I purposely tried to get angles that allowed me to at least throw off the untrained eye a little bit. I tried to compose each one of these images like abstract paintings so if they were ever shown individually, they remained a little undefined.

Biography: Aron Ortega is an Ecuadorian contemporary artist based in Los Angeles. A graduate of Universidad de Especialidades Espiritu Santo with a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts, Aron is well versed in both analog and digital media applications. While he embraces and frequently incorporates technology and contemporary techniques into his creative process, his work always sits on a classical foundation. In his latest project, Aron uses zoomed images to deconstruct objects into their most basic elements, colors and textures. He presents these paintings usually as little series of canvases that interact with each other.

Statement: The main concept behind my recent artwork is intervention. By adding, highlighting, removing or substituting relevant components within images, I try to create new ways to approach what appears to be set patterns of everyday human behavior. My approach to drawing, sketching and painting changed drastically after I started working with digital painting and image processing software. I started to see images in layers. Concepts turned into web browser-like tabs with related information all over them. My paintings have become multi-layered two dimensional objects. They depict situations in the same manner cubism attempted to represent the same object from different, simultaneous points of view. Our overly visual and technologically oriented culture also plays a very important role, as most of my recent subjects are purposely derived from internet based research. Lately, I try to come up with images that convey a familiar ground to the viewers. They do not necessarily have to be landmark images of any kind, but more like collective memories, accepted representations of things most people can relate to. The main reason behind this is that I also want to bring to the table a conversation about the visual differences (or lack thereof) between what is -when it comes to art as a product- contemporary and relevant against what is popular and mass produced.

Exhibitions: I'm currently featured in Blossom II: Art of Flowers, February 5 - April 10, 2011 Naples Museum of Art, Naples, Fl
